The University Model schedule affords families more time to connect with local learning organizations such as the Carnegie Museums, Phipps Conservatory, Fort Pitt Museum, Sweetwater Center for the Arts, the YMCA, and many, many more (see the application for more ideas).
St. Stephen's Classical Academy has also developed formal partnerships with two Sewickley-area programs:
Fern Hollow Nature Center
FHNC offers a class for homeschool students ages 5 to 9 on two Friday's per month, 10am - 12pm. Students will study a range of topics from insect investigations to beautiful bees to fantastic fossils and ocean wonders. Each class is designed to be hands-on and interactive while encouraging students to ask questions and investigate the natural world. Please visit Fern Hollow's website for more details about the program: www.fhnc.org. (Under the LEARN tab there is an option for St. Stephen's Classical Academy.)
Sewickley Public Library
St. Stephen's Classical Academy students will have regular opportunities to visit the library for a variety of programs. The library is going to hold one STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) class and one study session each month. The STEM program will integrate these four disciplines and encourages students to solve real world problems. The study sessions will be planned collaboratively with SSCA's teachers to align with particular projects or subjects throughout the year.
After School Classes
SSCA also offers Creative Writing and Art Classes in six week sessions throughout the year.
