Reading: Literature and Comprehension Guides
Third grade literature will include reading and comprehension activities from the books: Charlotte’s Web, Homer Price, Misty of Chincoteague, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, The Magician’s Nephew, Peter Pan, The Emperor’s New Clothes, The Random House Book of Fairy Tales, Stuart Little, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Story of the Treasure Seekers, and The Dragon of Lonely Island.
Language Arts: Shurley Level 3
The most astounding and effective grammar program available. The children learn jingles to memorize the parts of speech, enabling and encouraging them to chant till they start dreaming grammar lessons.

1. Students will continue to develop their cursive skills by copying Scripture passages that focus on the attributes of God. This easy-to-use book will give your student the practice they need to be successful in cursive as well as ingrain truth in hearts and minds for decades to come. Students can continue to develop their skill in cursive writing by copying the Shorter Catechism. Beginning with "What is the chief end of man" and ending with "What does the conclusion of the Lord’s Prayer teach us?"
2. This writing course for elementary students new to IEW lays a solid foundation of writing skills. Over the course of 15–30 weeks, students will learn how to effectively use a wide range of structural models and stylistic techniques in their compositions, as they write on a variety of enjoyable fiction and non-fiction topics.
Bible: Judges to Kings
This curriculum covers Judges through the time of Kings and Chronicles. Learning many of the major events of Scripture chronologically has proven invaluable in the lives of many children. Having children memorize names, dates, places, and events has given them a valuable tool for understanding how God is working today and what He has done during many past events. Furthermore, they are following classical methodology by memorizing this material which is presented in a variety of ways that makes the memory work quite enjoyable. We’ve heard countless examples of how students who used this curriculum were able to routinely contextualize more in-depth study in later years—and that is exactly what needs to happen. We know of no better means to make a student familiar and comfortable with his Bible than this tool.
Math: Saxon 5/4
Yes 5/4, this is no typo. Recommended for 3rd and 4th graders, the award-winning Mathematics 3 (Saxon 5/4) builds on basic level math skills while introducing more complex math concepts that will begin preparing the student for higher levels of math in the late Grammar stage. Students will work to master whole number concepts, computation, geometry, and other math concepts appropriate for this age level.
